Support for Linksys IP cameras

ViewCommander now has support for some Linksys camera models. The method described below may not work with all models.

Since the ViewCommander software supports the Motion JPEG (MJPEG) protocol, you will need to put the Linksys camera in MJPEG mode. Below are instructions on how to accomplish this.

If you are using the Linksys WVC200, then you can change your camera to <MJPEG mode by logging into the camera as the administrator account.

This requires changing settings on your Linksys camera.

************** USE AT YOUR OWN RISK **************

First, you may need to set the camera to use a different port number. Log onto the Linksys camera with the administrator account, then go to "Setup -> Options" and check the box at the bottom labeled "Enable Alternate Port (For HTTP/Web connections)".

Then, you will need to put the camera in MJPEG mode by entering the following command into a web browser:

http://<CAMERA-IPADRESS>:<Port>/adm/file.cgi?h_videotype=mjpeg&todo=save

where <CAMERA-IPADRESS> is the IP address of your camera, and port is the port the camera is set to (usually port 80).

Audio (if any) will not be accessible. Some camera functionality may not be present when using the camera web interface.

To change the camera back to MPEG-4 mode, enter the following link in a web browser:

http://<CAMERA-IPADRESS>:<Port>/adm/file.cgi?h_videotype=mpeg4&todo=save

where <CAMERA-IPADRESS> is the IP address of your camera,  and port is the port the camera is set to (usually port 80).

Note: Some customers have had success with this, however, since this is not a documented Linksys command, use at your own risk. IVI cannot be held responsible for any damage that may result to your camera. Additionally, IVI cannot provide additional technical support for Linksys cameras beyond that which is published on this webpage.
